George Stanton

George Henry Stanton was an Anglican bishop[1] in the second half of the 19th century and the early part of the 20th.[2]

Stanston was born in Stratford, London on 3 September 1835[3] he was educated at Hertford College, Oxford and ordained in 1858.[4] His first post was as a Curate at Christ Church, Rotherhithe.[5] He was Vicar of Holy Trinity, Lincoln's Inn Fields[6] Appointed the inaugural Bishop of North Queensland [7] in 1878,[8] he was translated[9] to Newcastle, NSW[10] in 1891[11] and died in post on 5 December 1905.[12]
